Do your headaches define you?

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be a person without migraines.  I have had them for so long and missed out on so many days of life because of them that they are a part of me.  Decisions about what to eat, when to sleep, what to drink are all affected.  Even little things like being in the glare of the sun or figuring out how long I’ll have to sit without being able to get up and walk around are things that I have to think about.  I can’t imagine a life where none of these would matter so much.

    Hello there.
Yes, my migraines define me. Especially since I’ve gotten to the point where I realize they’re just going to be a fact of life. There are certain things I do to make sure that they don’t RULE my life (you mentioned some in your post), but other than that I make sure I get regular sleep, relaxation and exercise.
    Hang in there, sister.

You pretty much sum up my thoughts - take care of that which I can and accept that this is part of my existence. Thanks for the comment, Erin.

And it’s nice to ‘meet’ you here, btw. :)

People say you’re defined by your actions. If those actions include staying home from social events, popping pills at work, and not being able to have that chocolate chip cookie, then you’re probably defined by your migraines.

I like to think that my migraines have taken some of the glossed-over barrier or blinders most of us put on going through life. We tend to take things for granted less and are grateful for pain free days. In this sense, maybe it defines us as well. I tend to see the clouds when driving into work and not so much of the smog. :)

Yes, it’s very esoteric but I think you’ll agree it applies.
