Let’s Recap
Yesterday’s migraine finally let up sometime early this morning. I find that my worst ones last roughly 36 hours, which is good in the sense that at least I know about when I ought to feel better. I got out one of my migraine books yesterday to refresh my knowledge and try to get myself back on track. So here’s a recap of what I know to help prevent migraines for myself:
1. Take B2 and magnesium daily.2. Stay well hydrated. 3. Don’t eat high-sugar foods on an empty stomach. 4. Don’t sleep in - try to get up at roughly the same time each day. 5. Avoid fermented or aged foods - wine, hard cheese, lunch meats, bacon, beer, soy sauce, etc 6. Avoid leftovers that have been sitting for more than a day or two in the refrigerator 7. Limit yogurt and citrus 8. Limit caffeine to 1-2 cups of coffee max 9. Avoid stress and practice relaxation techniques 10. Be particularly vigilant in the week leading up to my period. 11. Avoid eating nuts.
OK. So there it is. There’s my knowledge to date. I have my book out with its thorough listing of safe foods, foods to limit and foods to avoid. I have not been being as careful as I ought to be, nor have I been taking my supplements daily.
Commentary on items 1-11: 1. Not doing this daily but can and WILL 2. Doing pretty well with this - always room for improvement 3. I’m usually pretty good about this one 4. Hardly even an issue with 2 cats, a dog, a husband and a 3-year-old
5. Cheese. I eat way too much cheese.
6. I’m pretty good about this. 7. I’m Ok with this most days but some are worse than others. 8. Plenty of room for improvement here 9. Avoid stress?!?! Ha ha ha ha ha…OK, I’ll work on this one. 10. I need to really focus on this one. 11. No more peanut butter, no more trail mix. ![]()
