Holiday Solution
Monday, December 11th, 2006I came up with a solution for myself to help combat some of the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping. Instead of going to a fast food joint or a sit down restaurant during the mad rush, pack a lunch. It saves time, patience and moola and it gives you a chance to get away from the crowds and recharge.
I learned my lesson yesterday while x-mas shopping. I stopped off at Mickey D’s to get a fruit and parfait yogurt and a bottle of water. I got in the drive-thru lane and sat there for a good ten minutes like a doofus with the line not moving before I drove out and parked. I was the last car which should have told me something. I went inside to total chaos. I spent twenty minutes standing in line ordering my stuff and then waiting for someone to pull my items out of the fridge. What’s funny is that as I was standing there I kept eyeing a vacant cash register that had a computerized text boasting that McDonald’s total servicing time was sixty-seven seconds.
Today I wised up and brought myself a lunch. If I had been smart I could have made a sandwich last week when I went out when the Thanksgiving turkey was still fresh. I brought my little ice chest and had my sandwich, a bag of chips and a SoBe and sat in the Linens-n-Things parking lot. While sitting there I marked off my list of items I got and assessed what else I needed to get/do. Of course after eating and having the nice warm sun on me, I got a little drowsy. So I walked over to the Coffee Bean and got a mocha frappacino (with extra chocolate).
Evidently, I’m not the only one who spends a lot of time in their car.
